Ski to Sea Jr. RACE 2008
Be Green! The Green Team for the Ski to Sea Race has arranged for a shuttle bus to run continuously from the Lincoln Creek Park and Ride (the old Samish Drive-In) to Lake Padden. All volunteers, parents, spectators, and racers are encouraged to use this shuttle and avoid the parking rush at Lake Padden. No charge for this shuttle. Compliments of Bellingham/Whatcom Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
REGISTRATION: Registration will be limited to a total of 210 teams. The registration deadline is Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. registration is on a first come, first serve basis. Entry into a race is based upon receipt of application by the Chamber office. There will be 70 teams per race (70 Elementary teams, 70 Middle School teams, and 70 Community teams). If Elementary or Middle School Races fill to capacity, the teams may compete in the community Race.
REGISTRATION FEES: Registration fees will be $10.00 per person, due upon receipt of your application. Please submit only one (1) check per team. PLEASE PRINT OR TYPE YOUR APPLICATION COMPLETELY.
RACES: THERE WILL BE THREE SEPARATE RACES TAKING PLACE AT THE FOLLOWING TIMES: ELEMENTARY, 9:00 A.M. (3RD - 5TH GRADE), MIDDLE SCHOOL, 11:30 A.M. (6TH - 8TH GRADE), & COMMUNITY, 1:30 P.M.

Both the Elementary & Middle School Races will (1), a Male division, (2), a Female division, and (3), a Mixed division (3 females/3 males). The Community Race will have (1) an Elementary division (3rd - 5th Grade), (2), a Family division (all participants must be related), and (3) an Open division (open to everyone). Note: All Community Race participants must be in Grade 3 or above. A participant may compete on only one team, and in only one race.
TEAMS: All three races will have three (3) divisions. Both the Elementary & Middle School Races will have (1) a Male-only division (2) a Female-only division and (3) a Mixed division (3 males, 3 females). Note: All teams must be all male or all female except in the Mixed division. The Community Race will have (1) an Elementary division (3rd-5th Grade) (2) a Family division (all participants must be related) and (3) an open division (open to everyone). Note: All Community Race participants must be in grade 3 or above. A participant may compete on only one team and in only one race. NO EXCEPTIONS.
Teams that do not follow these guidelines will be disqualified. Please be aware of what division was selected should you need to find a substitution. All Participants for all races MUST be in 3rd grade or above.
No changes in divisions will be allowed after the application has been processed. There is a limit of 225 teams. There are 75 teams in each division: Elementary, Middle School & Community.
CHECK IN: REGISTRATION WILL OPEN AT 8:00 A.M., MAY 17 AT LAKE PADDEN FOR THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL RACE, 10:30 A.M. FOR THE MIDDLE SCHOOL RACE, AND 12:30 P.M. FOR THE COMMUNITY RACE. Each team will have a representative accompanied by an adult check in & pick up the team's T-shirts & racing bibs. Each team member will then report to their individual leg staging area with their bib on. They will then sign in & remain in the staging area throughout the event. (For specific check-in, walk-through & race times, please refer to the Schedule of Events.)

ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE SCHOOL & COMMUNITY RACE AWARDS |
All participants will receive a T-shirt. There will be a 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place team prize in each division for each race. All winning team members will also receive a prize. There will be a random drawing for two new bikes in Elementary and Middle School race and one bike in the Community Race. Anyone participating in the race will be eligible to win a bike.

Elementary/Middle/Community Course Description
START & FINISH: The start and finish area will be near the southern shelter, at the west softball field in the east side of the park.
EXCHANGE AREA: The same area as the start and finish. Individual staging areas will be set up for each leg of the race.
RUNNING / LEG 1: Racer will run northwest along the lake on the trail to the creek. A loop around the Ball Field and back to start area. Repeat course to complete 2 laps. DISTANCE: 1.5 Miles
3-LEGGED RACE / LEG 2: Racers (2) will run east through Ball Fields, follow the trail along parking lot north, proceed west to shelters, and south on gravel trail to exchange area. DISTANCE: .4 Mile EQUIPMENT: Three legged straps supplied.
BIKE / LEG 3: Racer will ride bike clockwise around the lake. Biker will dismount bike, and make exchange to soccer participant. DISTANCE: 2.7 Miles EQUIPMENT: Bike & helmets are required. Mtn. bike recommended. Safety inspection provided.
SOCCER / LEG 4: Racer will dribble a marked course on the field while negotiating cones. Racer will then be required to pick up their ball and cross the finish line. Racer will stop 3 times to complete accuracy kicks. DISTANCE: .5 Mile EQUIPMENT: A soccer ball is required
OBSTACLE COURSE / LEG 5: Racer will run on grass forward, then backward over a board walk, gunny sack, run over mats, crawl under a tarp, zig zag through trees on a hill, throw balls through a hole in a board, run through bushes on hill, go through tunnel, hop on one leg through designated course, over two walls & finish.
All courses are subject to change, and will be explained prior to the race during the course walk-through. Maps will be posted Race Day.
