Text Message Option for 2009
We listened to our racers from 2008 and now it's available for the 2009 race. What this means is all members of your support team, friends, family members, AND your racers can receive a text message or email each time a team member passes through the timing gate for any leg of the race. You can include as many phone numbers/email addresses as you want to receive these messages. This feature will be optional when you register your team for the race and there will be a small charge.

Team Pages
The media will use the Team Pages for contacting you for a story. If you don't make a Team Page, the media cannot reach you.
For the first time ever, you can now create team pages on the Ski to Sea web site when you register. You can even start your team page right now before you register. Your team page can include biographical information on team members, logos or shirt designs, photos from prior years and anything else that is tasteful. This will be available to the press to learn more about your team but also available to the public. We want this to be fun and have media and fans visit your page several times so be creative. If you have a sponsor here is your chance to give them the recognition and appreciation for helping put your team together.

Mountain Bike Course
As has been mentioned before, the new mountain bike course will be 13 miles long rather than the 9 miles we have had in the past, it will be about 60% paved roads and 40% trails and gravel roads, it will not include the section of Squalicum Beach and it will make a run thru Squalicum Creek Park before going into Squalicum Harbor. We expect this course to be more enjoyable for racers with some off road features we have not seen before. We are also hoping to have it available for practice in the days preceding the race.
Google Interactive Map of Race Course including new Mountain Bike Leg. The Mountain Bike course is subject to change, but this will give you a good idea of the route.

Water Bottles
In the past we have given bottled water to all racers as they finish their leg of the race. Even though we have always provided recycling stations for those water bottles, we have learned that this may not be the best environmental approach. For the 2009 race we will still provide bottled water for the first five legs of the race but we will use water jugs and compostable paper cups at the end of the mountain bike and kayak legs. This is a test to see how the jugs and cups work and if we can make the total switch in 2010.

I need to find racers!
I want to find a team to join! |
Message Board
As was done last year with the “Community Forum”, the web site will provide opportunities for you to find a team, find another racer for your team, plan your route on race day to minimize gas usage or offer us suggestions on how to make the race better. Please feel free to visit the message board any time and make your needs known. http://skitosea.netforums.us/

Canoe Equipment
The experience last year with having to cancel the canoe leg of the race has led us to examine the allowable equipment. In order to make the race as safe as possible, we have now decided that the minimum length of canoe allowed for all divisions in the race is 15’2”. Recreational divisions still have a maximum length of 18’. We will also no longer allow inflatable life jackets of any kind in the canoe leg of the race.
Additional inflatable flotation designed to help keep your canoe afloat during a capsize is not only allowed, it's recommended!
